Picture of the day: The race hit the small climb to Anghiari only five kilometers into Stage 9, and any semblance of a quiet start was tossed aside, as attacks went every which way up the steep, narrow, perfectly straight road into the town’s center. The break didn’t get away here though—it would take a bit more aggression before the day’s group of escapees, 12 strong, would wrest free of the field. After that, the field relaxed, the break pushed out a solid lead—and just barely held on to the finish in Florence.
